Why hike Tre Cime

Planning your visit
Most visitors begin at Rifugio Auronzo and walk the circuit counterclockwise. Allow four to five hours for the main loop, including photo stops and a relaxed break at a rifugio.
Mountain forecasts change quickly. Check conditions on the morning of the hike and carry a warm layer and rain shell even when the valley forecast looks settled.
Walking the classic circuit
The opening section toward Forcella Lavaredo is broad and straightforward. Beyond the pass, the north faces appear and the trail becomes quieter as it crosses toward Rifugio Locatelli.
The return undulates across open alpine terrain before climbing gently back toward Rifugio Auronzo. Save energy for this final section, particularly on hot afternoons.
