🚏 Getting Around: Public Transport Tips

Skip the hassle of driving and enjoy the convenience of Sofia’s public transportation. You have two great options for tickets:

  • Day Ticket: 4 BGN (2€)
  • 24-Hour Ticket: 6 BGN (3€)

💡 Pro tip: If you use a credit card on buses and trams, your expenses cap at the price of a day ticket. But if you prefer the 24-hour ticket, buy it at a ticket booth beforehand.

🏛 Visit Boyana Church

Boyana Church is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a glimpse into Bulgaria’s rich medieval past. Despite its modest exterior, the church houses stunning frescoes dating back to the 13th century, showcasing 89 scenes with 240 human figures.

  • 🎫 Entrance Fee: 12 BGN (6€) for a 6-minute visit in groups of 8.
  • ⏱️ Opening Hours:
    • Winter: 09:00 – 17:30 (last entry at 17:00)
    • Summer: 09:30 – 18:00 (last entry at 17:30)
  • 📷 No Photos Allowed Inside
  • 🚌 Getting there: Take Metro Line 2 (M2) to Vitosha station, then hop on Bus 64. Takes about 45minutes.

🔔 Heads up: Avoid visiting right at opening time. Tour groups heading to Boyana Church and Rila Monastery often create long lines. Only 8 people can enter at a time, so it’s best to time your visit later in the morning. You can even call the number on their website to book your visit in advance.

🏔 Exploring Vitosha Mountain

After soaking in the history at Boyana Church, it’s time for a change of pace with a visit to Vitosha Mountain. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers, offering breathtaking views and fresh mountain air.
